GROWMARK Employees Receive Communications Awards

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 — Bloomington, Illinois – GROWMARK Corporate and Government Relations and Marketing Communications team members took home several awards from the Cooperative Communicators Association’s (CCA) Excellence in Communications Awards ceremony, held during the CCA educational Institute May 30-June 2 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Professional communicators representing cooperatives from across the United States and Canada submitted 703 entries in the competition. The awards recognize the best in writing, photography, programs and projects, and publications.

Earning first place honors were:

  • Cassie Becker, publications and media relations specialist, in the Photography category for the portrait, “When the calf stands tall”
  • Karen Jones, cooperative affairs and communications specialist, in the One-time Publication category for the “Pocket Guide to the GROWMARK System”

Earning second place honors were:

  • Cassie Becker, publications and media relations specialist, and Julie Fontana, senior graphic designer, in the Employee Publication category for the SOURCE Magazine
  • Cassie Becker, publications and media relations specialist, and Julie Fontana, senior graphic designer, in the Improved Publication category for the SOURCE Magazine
  • Karen Jones, cooperative affairs and communications specialist, in the Documentary Video category for “Properties of Anhydrous Ammonia”
  • Karen Jones, cooperative affairs and communications specialist, in the Cooperative Education category for the “Pocket Guide to the GROWMARK System”

Receiving third place honors were:

  • Cliff Dolbeare, corporate strategic development manager, in the Social Media category for “FS: A “Trusted Advisor” … even on Social Media”

Honorable mentions were given to:

  • GROWMARK Marketing Communications team in the Cooperative Education category for the “FS Interactive Coloring Book”

CCA, the only professional communications organization dedicated to serving those associated with member-owned businesses, met at the Hyatt Regency – Indianapolis where it drew more than 100 communicators from across the country.

The four-day program included a variety of professional development sessions ranging from understanding social media, communicating with elected officials, writing to photography and best practices for video.
