The NCFC Washington Conference provides cooperatives the chance to interact directly with the federal policy makers whose decisions will shape agricultural and environmental policy in the year to come. It is also a great opportunity to highlight and promote the importance of farmer cooperatives to their producer-owners, rural communities, and consumers in the United States and around the world.
Some of the issues brought to the hill included The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act (HR 1599), Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Regulation (HR 1732), Waterways Capital Development Plan, among other topics. More information on each of these issues is included as a link below.
This year’s Washington Conference also included a Political Advocacy & Leadership Program for Young Cooperators. Designed to help foster political and legislative engagement by the next generation of co-op leaders, young cooperators in attendance participated in the Washington Conference as well as an additional two-hour seminar designed to teach them more about the agricultural issues at hand and provide some in-depth education and training to prepare them for their visits with legislative staff members.
